Colombe Bleue * - Martin Sati

Colombe Bleue begins with a set of cut steel pieces painted blue. Each element has a simple geometry and, on its own, suggests little in terms of a specific function. The figure emerges when the pieces are assembled and begin to condition one another.

The dove was not drawn in advance. It appears during the construction process. A curve starts to resemble a body, another piece becomes a leg, and a vertical form eventually turns into the neck and head. The work consists precisely in building volume and stopping the process at the point where the figure begins to become recognizable.

There is also a connection here with graphic language. A single letter has a form of its own, but it is through its relationship with other letters that it becomes part of a word and acquires a broader meaning. Something similar happens here: none of the individual pieces has the volume or appearance of a dove, but once assembled, they begin to produce that resemblance.

The image of the bird coexists with the constructive logic of the pieces that form it. The result sits somewhere between figure, object, and structure.

Colombe Bleue does not have a fixed scale. Its size can vary, and the piece is built to adapt to the space in which it will be installed. The form remains, but its proportions and dimensions respond to the site.

This way of working is closely connected to the idea of assembly: a form that does not depend on a single part, but on the relationships created between different elements.
